Baby planning time - What if i'm pregnant and not immune to rubella
IMMUNITY TO RUBELLA
(GERMAN MEASLES)
Rubella vaccine cannot be given once you're confirmed pregnant. You may be offered a vaccine after the birth of your baby to protect you against rubella in the future. In the meantime, you should remember:
| Avoid contact with anyone suffering from the infection | ||
| Rubella vaccine is routinely given to
children in the UK and so the chances of being exposed to this infection are less. |
||
| Exposure alone to rubella does not mean that your baby will be affected. You will have to contract the infection for it to affect your baby. | ||
| If you do contract the infection, you will have to consider the effects on your baby before deciding to go ahead with the pregnancy. | ||
| The risk to your baby decreases as your pregnancy progresses (risk being highest in the first three months). | ||
