All babies undergo an Apgar test just a minute after
birth. This test is repeated after 5 minutes and most
babies score better in the second test if they didn't get a
great score in the first one. Babies who score 7-10 in the
test are in good to excellent condition. Babies with a
score of 4-6 are in fair condition and may need some
resuscitative measures. Babies scoring under 4 need
emergency treatment.
